Labour Ward 08.30h to 21.00h
- Attend handover at 08.30h in Ward 7 (LW), then join the ward round.
- After 16.30h and at weekends you are responsible for Ward 8, triage and gynae.
- Evening handover is at 20.30h.
- When reviewing any patient’s results on SCI store, it is important that you mark ‘action’ on these. This allows anyone else accessing these results to see that there has been review and action taken.
- Please ensure the handover sheet is up to date.
Nightshift 20.30h – 09.00h
- Handover takes place in Ward 7 at 20.30h. You are expected to do a ward round of Ward 7 after handover. Maternity triage moves into Ward 7 overnight.
Clinics – all start at 09.00h or 13.30h
- As well as general gynaecology clinics there are a variety of subspecialist clinics you will get the chance to attend. Consultant antenatal clinics are staffed by two midwives, a registrar and consultant.
Gynaecology cover 10.30h to 18.30h
- At the start of the shift, please page the Consultant Gynaecologist of the Week (CGOW) to arrange handover of all patients. Gynaecology triage is from 13.30h. Please dictate a letter for each patient you review at the triage service on the day.
- You will take the referral calls and arrange to see these patients in Ward 6. If there are no beds in Ward 6 then all patients are seen in ED. Hand over to the LW registrar at the end of your shift.
Termination of pregnancy (TOP) clinic
This takes place on a Tuesday afternoon. It is run by Dr Aileen Cope, consultant. In her absence a registrar will cover this service. If you have a conscientious objection to participating in this service please let Dr Cope or Dr Sewnauth know. Remember that you are bound by the GMC to care for women in an emergency situation even if you object to being involved in their care electively.
