In this page you should find all the information you require to ease you into work as a GP resident within NHS Forth Valley. All GPSTs will have a slightly different experience across ST1-2 based on location of placement and hospital specialty.

Education
When in hospital placements there are 6 teaching days to attend in total (2 per placement). You will be emailed what dates are available for that block but it is the same 6 sessions that are repeated each time. These include ENT and Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Medical Inequalities, Child Safeguarding Level 3, Palliative Care and Ethics and EBM, Critical Appraisal, Audit, SEA and Teaching Skills.
Yearly updates on child and adult safeguarding are required. For child safeguarding the best resource is eLFH child safeguarding level 3. For adult safeguarding a course has been set up for NES (an enrolment code will be sent out). It is unclear if this is just during the COVID-19 outbreak or if formal sessions will be arranged in adult safeguarding as this is a new requirement to have a yearly update.
In hospital there is regular lunchtime teaching and peer support for GP residents and an email will be sent out with dates.
There was also a weekly peer support coffee on a Tuesday at 1715 in Starbucks (not currently due to Covid and unsure at present if this will restart).
Exams
GP residents are required to sit both the AKT (theory) and CSA exams by the end of ST2 and ST3 respectively.
